Brussels is famous not only with its diverse architecture combining medieval constructions and postmodern buildings but also with numerous cultural facilities and museums. There are about 80 museums in the region of Brussels which cover almost all areas: history, art, technology, industry, science, folklore, literature and many others.
Some famous museums in Brussels are:
- AutoWorld museum: A vintage car museum located in Park of the Fiftieth(Parc du Cinquantenaire) right in the center of Brussels. It holds a varied collection of about 400 American and European cars from the past century such as Bentley, Cord, Bugatti and more. Some of the cars there are available for hire but just for some very special events. AutoWorld museum also disposes with a gift shop where different car mini models can be bought.
- Centre for Fine Arts(Paleis voor Schone Kunsten): This is a cultural facility including a concert hall, theater and numerous conference and exhibition rooms. The concert hall called “The Bozar” is home to the famous “National Orchestra of Belgium”. There are usually many finals of different music competitions held there as well.
- MIM(Musical Instrument Museum): Being a part of the “Royal Museums for Art and History” and disposing with a collection of over 1500 musical instruments the MIM is a famous music museum located in “Old England department store” in the center of Brussels. This museum represents not only the Belgian musical history but it also holds a diverse collection of other European and non-European music instruments. The museum visitors are being given infrared headphones with the help of which they are able to listen to musical extracts of the different instruments.
- Horta Museum: This is a museum located in the former house of the famous Belgian architect Victor Horta. In fact the whole museum is dedicated to his life and work. The museum offers its visitors not just to view utensils and art objects designed by Horta but also it organizes temporary exhibitions on topics related to Horta, his art and the arts of his contemporaries. The Horta museum is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
